Following last year's successful introduction of this new format, the BHBIA will once again be offering Interviewing and Moderating training in a professional viewing facility, allowing delegates to practise their skills in a realistic setting, and obtain meaningful feedback on their individual performance.

Furthermore, there will be an opportunity for hands-on moderation of a specifically recruited mini-group of GPs.

The workshop will be useful for both pharmaceutical company and agency delegates:

On the agency-side:

- To provide practical tips and pointers for improvement

- To give each individual a personalised review of his/her moderating style and coaching (recommendations)

On the client-side:

- To enable clients to understand and empathise better with moderators

- To coach clients in listening and interpersonal skills which are also applicable in other business situations

The specific skill areas focused on in the workshop will include:

- Active Listening - a model of communication based on the NLP tenet that 'the meaning of communication is the response you get'

- Non-verbal communication and rapport

- People Reading, Group Dynamics and Task Setting - moderator strategies for dealing with different respondent types

- The importance of room set-up

Building on these concepts, delegates will take part in an interviewing task in pairs and will take turns to moderate the GP mini-group. Individual feedback will be provided by the course conveners following review of the video footage.
