NHS Update
22nd November 2012
Trafalgar Events Conference Centre, 8-9 Northumberland Street,
London WC2N 5DA
At the time of planning the BHBIA training programme the Coalition Government's plans for the NHS remain unclear during a period of "pause, listen and reflect". The Health and Social Care Bill is still going through parliament, yet changes inside the NHS continue apace.
This workshop will allow delegates to fully explore the policies behind the proposals, their likely impact on commissioners and service providers, and the opportunities and hurdles they present to the pharmaceutical industry.
A key theme running throughout the workshop will be an exploration of the Health and Social Care Bill and its implications.
The Bill proposes to create an independent NHS Board, promote patient choice, and to reduce NHS administration costs.
Key features are:
- establishes an independent NHS Board to allocate resources and provide commissioning guidance
- increases GPs’ powers to commission services on behalf of their patients
- strengthens the role of the Care Quality Commission
- develops Monitor, the body that currently regulates NHS foundation trusts, into an economic regulator to oversee aspects of access and competition in the NHS
- cuts the number of health bodies to help meet the Government's commitment to cut NHS administration costs by a third, including abolishing Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities.
The BHBIA NHS Update workshop will be run for us by Michael Sobanja, an experienced senior executive, management consultant, facilitator and trainer. Michael is the Chief Executive of the NHS Alliance and holds other key board level posts and advisory roles.
The workshop is aimed at those who have a good understanding of the NHS and would like an opportunity to review the most recent developments and their implications for those of us working in business intelligence. Each time the course takes place the precise content is finalised in line with latest NHS developments. The flexibility to meet individual delegate needs and incorporate current topics is a critical element of the workshop design.
