Workshop
BHBIA Challenging Conversations - 2024
Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD
Thursday 11 April 2024, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Why does mindset matter? What role does fear have in your own mindset and communication when having challenging conversations?
Ensure you don’t shy away from delivering the messages that really need to be heard by the business.
Purpose
The main objective of this workshop is to provide you with the skills and knowledge to enhance the impact you have in your interactions and to drive even more compelling conversations – which your stakeholders, may or may not agree with, but they will agree to action and implement the suggestions because they value you as their trusted Business Advisor.
This workshop will examine the three levels of fear, five truths about fear and the difference between active and passive communication. This will help you to overcome your Gremlins/imposter syndrome as well as introduce you to techniques which will build your confidence to have those challenging conversations. Handling challenging conversations assertively and respectfully will increase engagement, commitment, build trust to strengthen your relationships and the value that you bring to your stakeholders.
What can you expect?
By the end of the day, you will:
- Understand the types of conversations you find challenging
- Recognise and acknowledge the psychological barriers to having these conversations successfully and why does mindset matter
- Understand what role fear has in your own mindset and communication
- Examine the three levels of fear, five truths about fear and the difference between active and passive communication
- Explore strategies for overcoming fear and develop a plan to address your own fears, helping you to face future challenges/challenging conversations e.g., "Going Future Focused for Success", putting yourself in their shoes
- Explore the options for dealing with challenging conversations – how to stay assertive and use assertive questioning techniques
- Learn how to give quality feedback as part of a challenging conversation
Who should attend?
The skills covered are relevant to anyone involved in gathering and communicating insights to audiences over whom they have no managerial authority but need to influence and guide their decisions. It would suit those new into the industry to build a strong starting base, or those with more experience looking to enhance and develop their current communication and influencing skills.
This course also follows on from the Influencing without Authority workshop held earlier this year. They are designed to compliment each other and build a set of business impact skills that equip Business Insights professionals to move beyond being providers of answers and become trusted, valued business partners.
