This Black History Month, join us as we explore the lives of four remarkable people who created lasting legacies in British healthcare.
From well-known names and faces to largely unknown stories, we will learn together through narratives, quizzes and curiosity.
What you can expect?
Join us for an interactive Black History Month session celebrating some remarkable figures in Black British healthcare history.
Through three short stories, we’ll explore Mary Seacole’s care and enterprise around the Crimean War; Dame Elizabeth Anionwu’s pioneering work as the UK’s first sickle cell and thalassaemia nurse specialist; and the lives of doctors Cecil Belfield Clarke and Harold Moody, whose work connected healthcare, community leadership and civil rights.
This won’t be a traditional webinar. The session will mix accessible storytelling with quick quizzes and audience participation, giving you the chance to discover some fascinating people, test your knowledge and perhaps learn a few things you didn’t know.
This will be an informal, engaging exploration of an important part of British healthcare history and celebration of the people whose work helped shape healthcare and society as we know it.
Who should attend?
It is perfect for all BHBIA members and colleagues, from any and all backgrounds — no specialist knowledge of history or healthcare is needed.
