The Keith Munro Award for Best Presentation (2024)
Winner: The TikTok Revolution: How video sharing platforms are redefining healthcare insights
Presented by: Thomas Markham, Associate Director – Lumanity
TikTok is not just about dancing (though doctors are dancing there too) but is transforming how people access and engage with medical information. In his presentation, Thomas explored how social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube are shaping healthcare conversations and insights.
Thomas highlighted how HCPs are embracing video to increase disease awareness and the impact of collaborations between physicians and patients in addressing health inequalities in minority populations.
Through short videos, patients and caregivers share experiences and insights, while HCPs deliver advice in a more relatable and accessible manner. This democratisation of information empowers patients, reduces stigma and facilitates a better understanding of patient experiences and preferences.
Thomas encouraged the industry to redefine how patient insights are gathered by analysing the video content shared and the interactions it generates. By doing so, healthcare can become more patient-centric and responsive to real-world experiences, leading to more effective healthcare solutions and better patient outcomes.
The John Wheeler Award for Best Workshop (2024)
Winner: Moving to a nine-day-fortnight – a story told with numbers
Led by: Matthew Beckett, Managing Director – CSL (Compufile Systems Ltd)
In this engaging workshop, Matt Beckett shared CSL's transformative approach to a nine-day working fortnight from the iniital announcement of the pilot programme through to its implementation.
Participants stepped into the shoes of the HR Director, Customer Service Manager and Finance Director to set out all the reasons why this wouldn’t work.and compared them with the challenges CSL faced during their pilot. They then uncovered practical solutions and quickly found that some common sense combined with creative thinking really could pave the way for new ways of working.
The session concluded with actionable insights on implementing organisational changes, empowering decision-making, fostering a culture of trust and learnings from CSL’s successes and setbacks. Matt's impactful workshop highlighted how commercial acumen, innovation and teamwork can significantly enhance productivity and work-life balance.
