Webinar
BHBIA Ethics and Compliance Committee – Winter update
Zoom
Thursday 04 December 2025, 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Hear our Ethics Experts discuss their view on the impact of legislative changes in 2025, with a specific focus on the impact of AI technologies.
Purpose
We will update you on recent legislative changes, and their likely impact on you, your organisation and the research you run.
What can you expect?
This webinar will include:
- PV update - Regulation (EU) 2025/1466: The Regulation is aimed at marketing authorisation holders (MAHs) (i.e. pharma companies) and their pharmacovigilance (PV) systems, but third parties subcontracted to perform PV tasks (including market research agencies) may be impacted.
- UK Adequacy decision update: The existing adequacy decisions are set to expire in December 2025. An extension will allow organisations in Europe to continue transferring data to the UK-based.
- Data usage bill: The UK's data reform Bill received Royal Assent on 19 June 2025. The changes will be phased in over the next year.
- ISO20252: The international standard for market, opinion, and social research, defining quality management, transparency, data protection, and process requirements. A draft revision has been released for public comment.
- Sharing & Transferring of Personal Data: A focus on ‘The AI Effect’. In healthcare market research, personal data doesn’t just stay in one place: it moves between clients, agencies, fieldwork team... and platforms. This short session looks at what is required to support compliant transfers of personal data between parties, people, and systems, including how AI can act as unseen data processor in the research workflow.
- AI Govenance: As AI transforms the healthcare research landscape, we are increasingly relying on AI to uncover insights, predict trends, and inform strategic decisions. Yet with these opportunities come new responsibilities: ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in how AI is developed and applied. Most legal battles around AI are centred around confidentiality, privacy, and IP dispute. This session will explore the fundamentals of AI governance—the frameworks, policies, and ethical principles that guide responsible AI use. Including type of AI deployment (Public, Enterprise, On-Premises), actors responsible (Provider, Deployer, User), with evolving regulations, maintaining trust with stakeholders and mitigation practices.
