Webinar
Therapist’s Toolkit for Qualitative Researchers: Using Counselling Theory to Reveal Real Motivation
Zoom
Thursday 02 July 2026, 12:30PM - 13:30PM
Even Alan Parsons is getting into therapy, but on a serious note: What can we qualitative researchers learn from therapy sessions to dig deeper into our respondents’ motivations? Is our respondent in their child ego state or their adult? And why does it matter?
Calling all Qualitative Researchers and Story Tellers:
People are at the heart of qualitative research: What they do; How they do it; and Why they do it? We look at beliefs and how they impact behaviours. Therapy is not so dissimilar, a therapist will use techniques that empower individuals to better understand themselves, their emotions, and their relationships. Such techniques can enhance a qualitative relationship, to help us create conditions in an interview or a group discussion that enables respondents to reflect on their attitudes and their behaviours. If our respondents know themselves better, they're better able to help us understand them, their feelings, attitudes and behaviours. All aspects that our marketeers want to tap into.
These techniques and theories can be particularly useful within patient research where a patient might be putting up barriers or feel uncomfortable sharing their thoughts about their condition. However, they can also be an enabler in those ‘hard to crack’ HCP interviews.
