BHBIA welcomes Martin Mullard as new Ethics Advisor
June 12th, 2025
The BHBIA is delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Mullard as its new Ethics Advisor.

Martin has over 30 years’ experience working in Business Intelligence, both agency and client side. Martin started out at The Research Quorum back in the early-90’s before moving on to a client role with Wyeth. Martin is an expert with Patient Data, having managed the databases DIN-LINK and NCTE whilst at CompuFile. Martin moved on in the 2000’s to contract for many leading client companies, and whilst doing this was delighted to win the BOBI award for ‘Best in Business Intelligence’. After a stint launching Diabetes brands at Boehringer Ingelheim, Martin moved on to work more closely on Marketing and Sales Execution whilst working as a Project Manager at STEM Healthcare. Here, Martin worked on many of the world’s leading brands, spanning markets around the world.
Outside of his Ethics role, Martin spends time walking his dogs on the beaches of Bournemouth, playing tennis and nagging his kids to do their homework! He’s a keen follower of Watford FC.
Reflecting on his appointment, Martin said: “I am excited to accept the role as the Ethics Advisor to the BHBIA. I am looking forward to working closely with Yuliya, the Ethics Lead, and the wonderful Ethics team who all give their time to support this crucial part of the BHBIA. I am keen to help maintain the high standards that Kim Smith has set, and working to ensure that BHBIA Members have access the most up to date and highest quality Ethics advice possible. I look forward to meeting new and old colleagues at upcoming BHBIA events.”
In his new role Martin will help drive and support the BHBIA’s Ethics & Compliance Committee (ECC) in its work to:
- Understand the ethical, regulatory and legal obligations that impact UK healthcare business intelligence (BI);
- Communicate their practical implications to members through a wide range of initiatives that include guidelines, updates, presentations, training seminars and webinars;
- Develop positive working relationships with other stakeholder organisations to raise the profile of the BHBIA, its ECC, making a positive impact on policies, processes, guidance, regulations and laws that could/do impact our industry.
The goal of the ECC is to ensure that the highest levels of legal and ethical compliance are adhered to in all BI practices.
Please join us in welcoming Martin to the BHBIA team.
Of course, this good news is also tempered with sadness as we say goodbye to Kim Smith
Kim is retiring after a successful career in the industry, including 3 years as our Ethics Advisor.

Kim will be staying with us to support Martin for a handover period but we said a formal farewell at the Conference, at which Chair, Paul O'Nions and Treasurer, Nick Merryfield presented her with a gift and thanked her on behalf of the Board, the Ethics and Compliance Committee and BHBIA members for her outstanding contribution.
