Learn to cut through information overload by crafting clear, compelling, and actionable narratives. Discover the power of storytelling and apply proven techniques used by effective communicators. Enhance the value you deliver to clients and stakeholders, building stronger, more trusted relationships.

Purpose

We live in an age of infobesity: we’re all increasingly bombarded with more and more information with less time to process it.  For research and insight professionals, the rising challenge is to cut through, be heard and ensure that our work delivers value and impact.  That’s where we can learn from the best storytellers, particularly journalists.

Our clients and stakeholders need to see the wood for the trees, clearly understand the key ‘story’ behind the data and be guided towards making the right business decisions.  This highly practical workshop will enable you to communicate compelling research and insight stories that are clear, memorable, actionable and audience-focused, and that pass the ‘elevator’ test.

What can you expect?

This highly practical and interactive workshop will equip you with a toolbox of pragmatic tools, frameworks and approaches that will make a real difference to the power of your storytelling.  You will apply the fundamentals of effective communication & storytelling to your own communication (whether emails, reports, pitches, debriefs or presentations).

The over-riding aim is to help you to increase the impact and influence of your communication, enabling your clients / stakeholders to take firm action & make decisions as a result.

We will discuss such key issues as:

  • the need to overcome obesity when communicating insight
  • the power of storytelling to pass both the ‘elevator’ test and the ‘so what?’ test
  • the importance of clarity – of message, purpose & audience
  • identifying your key messages & insights and applying a journalistic approach to communicating them, using data to support not complicate the story
  • the difference between ‘findings’ and ‘insights’
  • having a confident, compelling point of view that answers the ‘so what?’
  • structure and storyboarding / the importance of ‘visualising the journey’
  • segmenting your audience / clarifying & managing their expectations
  • the impact of design and visualisation on both understanding & memorability
  • Create a clear and compelling story from the output of your research, using data to support rather than confuse the key messages and arguments;
  • Employ the tools of effective communicators, including storytellers and journalists;
  • Enable your clients and stakeholders to take firm action and make informed decisions as a result of your work.

Who should attend?

The workshop is equally appropriate for researchers and insight professionals on both the client- and agency-side, and suitable for all levels of experience.  It will be particularly relevant to those aiming to move from a transactional to a consultative trusted relationship with their stakeholders.

This workshop is the second of a three-part series - all centred on enhancing your Business Skills in order to be valued as a trusted partner. Other workshops featured in the programme are:

  • Nailing the Business Issues to Deliver Actionable Insight
  • Advanced Presentation skills: Delivering Impactful Stories
