BHBIA Board - appointment of new Chair and other roles

May 26th, 2020

We are pleased to announce that Paul O’Nions, Head of Business Operations & Support, UK & Ireland at Sanofi, has been elected by the BHBIA Board as our new Chairman. Paul has been a Board Member for the last four years during which time he has helped to further develop our offering for the analytics sector of the membership as well as strengthening our overall strategic focus. He is well placed to lead us as we strive to achieve our goal of empowering the UK healthcare insights community to deliver excellence with integrity, and become the industry association for thought leadership, professional development and ethical standards for deriving insights within UK healthcare.

Paul takes over from Nick Coolican Smith who has served as Chairman for over 7 years. We thank Nick for his exceptional commitment and dedicated leadership, and are delighted that he is going to remain on the Board to support Paul and to allow us to continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience. Nick steps into the role of Deputy Chair, alongside Jenny Dawson. Having two Deputy Chairs will help us maximise our ability to respond to current and future strategic challenges and opportunities, as well as always being in a position to respond swiftly to any issues.

Neil Reynolds continues in the role of treasurer, and is committed to maximising the value that members get for their subscription fees, and, for 2020, striving to minimise the impact of the current public health crisis on our finances.

We also welcome Neil Osmond as a new member to the Board, as announced at the BHBIA AGM on 11th May. Neil is CEO of Earthware Ltd., a company dedicated to solving real world problems using digital technology. He comes from a background of healthcare (GSK, AstraZeneca, MSD) and management consultancy and brings experience from across the business intelligence spectrum.

Neil replaces Nick Merryfield, who we thank for the enthusiasm, energy and fresh perspectives that he brought to the team, and we continue to build on his ideas.

Board members all take on one or more specific responsibilities, in addition to the general running of the organisation and organisation of major events.

Key roles include:

  • Ethics & Compliance Committee liaison - Jenny Dawson
  • BOBI Committee liaison - Kelly West
  • Fieldwork Forum liaison - Neil Reynolds
  • Analytics Leads - Rob Heathcote and Neil Osmond
  • Market Research Training Lead - Dan Coffin
  • Webinar Lead - Kate Stevens
