Virtual Workshop
BHBIA Stepping into Challenging Conversations - 2026
Zoom
Thursday 21 May 2026, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Why does mindset matters? Challenging conversations are inevitable in healthcare. Embrace your fears, and develop the confidence to deliver crucial messages that really need to be heard. By drawing upon your own case studies and realistic scenarios in this interactive workshop, you will master the art of challenging conversations, and ensure your valuable insights reach decision-makers and drive positive change within the healthcare ecosystem.
Purpose
This interactive workshop has been tailor made as part of the BHBIA’s Business Skills series and is designed to empower you to handle challenging conversations assertively and respectfully within the pharmaceutical and healthcare landscape. This will allow you to increase engagement, commitment, and drive even more compelling conversations with your stakeholders as their valued business partner. We will examine fear, the difference between active and passive communication, and much more. This will help you to overcome your Gremlins and imposter syndrome, build your confidence to have those challenging conversations, and enhance impact in your interactions.
What can you expect?
By the end of the day, you will:
- Understand the types of conversations you find challenging
- Recognise and acknowledge the psychological barriers to having these conversations successfully and why does mindset matter
- Understand what role fear has in your own mindset and communication
- Examine the three levels of fear, five truths about fear and the difference between active and passive communication
- Explore strategies for overcoming fear and develop a plan to address your own fears, helping you to face future challenges/challenging conversations e.g., "Going Future Focused for Success", putting yourself in their shoes
- Explore the options for dealing with challenging conversations – how to stay assertive and use assertive questioning techniques
- Learn how to give quality feedback as part of a challenging conversation
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for professionals who regularly face challenging conversations. It is particularly relevant to those who need to deliver insights, challenge perspectives, give feedback, or manage resistance—whether with colleagues, clients, or other stakeholders. It will benefit both those newer to the industry, looking to build their confidence and communication foundations, and experienced professionals seeking practical tools to navigate high-stakes, emotionally charged, or sensitive discussions with greater skill and composure.
This course follows on from a series of workshops that starts with 'Influencing without Authority' held on 26th February and is finishes with 'Mastering the Art of Facilitation' on 25th June. The courses in this series are stand alone but also designed to complement each other and build a set of business impact skills that equip Business Insights professionals to move beyond being providers of answers and become trusted, valued business partners.
