2024 Winner: The TikTok Revolution: How video sharing platforms are redefining healthcare insights
Presented by: Thomas Markham, Associate Director – Lumanity

TikTok is not just about dancing (though doctors are dancing there too) but is transforming how people access and engage with medical information. In his presentation, Thomas explored how social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube are shaping healthcare conversations and insights.
Thomas highlighted how HCPs are embracing video to increase disease awareness and the impact of collaborations between physicians and patients in addressing health inequalities in minority populations.
Through short videos, patients and caregivers share experiences and insights, while HCPs deliver advice in a more relatable and accessible manner. This democratisation of information empowers patients, reduces stigma and facilitates a better understanding of patient experiences and preferences.
Thomas encouraged the industry to redefine how patient insights are gathered by analysing the video content shared and the interactions it generates. By doing so, healthcare can become more patient-centric and responsive to real-world experiences, leading to more effective healthcare solutions and better patient outcomes.
The John Wheeler Award is for the Best Workshop
2024 Winner: Moving to a nine-day-fortnight – a story told with numbers
