Matthew Beckett - Managing Director, CSL / Data Analytics Lead, BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee

Matthew is the Managing Director of CSL, and has worked in Business Intelligence for over twenty years, much of which has been within the healthcare industry. 

Matt’s particular interests include data modelling, and the application of data to support evidence based decision making.

Klaas Breukel - Associate Director, Actelion / BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee member

Klaas is Associate Director, Global Commercial Insights at Actelion. In his role, Klaas leads strategic insights programs (marketing research, competitive intelligence and business analytics) for a couple of Actelion products.

He has worked for a number of pharmaceutical companies on a local and global level, in various therapeutic areas (incl. CNS, Oncology, and COPD). He was based in the UK for 5 years.
He holds a Degree in Economic Psychology from the University of Tilburg (the Netherlands), and is located in Basel.

Ethics and compliance have become more and more important over the years. Klaas is very interested in the topic and has joined the Ethics & Compliance committee to contribute to the market research community.

Yuliya Fontanetti - Head of Operations, Healthcare Research Worldwide / BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee member

Having worked in the healthcare market research arena for most of her career, Yuliya’s passion for uncovering research insights has been supported by gaining robust experience across numerous therapy areas and methodological approaches over the years.

Through her avid interest in high quality data and a real fascination with healthcare research, Yuliya has developed extensive data collection expertise and the desire to deliver ‘gold standard’ within MR by combining the drive for innovative approaches with guideline adherence and understanding.

A naturally keen ambassador for ethical compliance and guidelines, as well as leading the implementation of GDPR within her own organisation, Yuliya joined the BHBIA Ethics committee in early 2018 to help drive compliance across the industry.

Dr Michelle Goddard - Director of Policy and Standards, Market Research Society

Michelle is Director of Policy and Standards at the Market Research Society responsible for promoting and protecting the research sector’s quality standards. She also serves as the European Research Federation (EFAMRO) Director of Policy & Communication. 

A graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science, she was called to the Bar in 1989 and received her Ph.D. in Law from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada in 2011. With a wealth of experience in consumer market regulation and research gained in a range of academic, policy and enforcement roles over the last 20+ years she is also currently a Panel member of the Legal Services Board Consumer Panel. 

Michelle has a strong track record of embedding and promoting compliance with UK and EU data protection laws, with a current focus on implementation of GDPR in the insights and data analytics sector.

Nicola Miles - Business Director, medeConnect Healthcare Insight / Agency Training Lead, BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee

Nicola has over 25 years of experience covering both clinical and market research.  Initially working at the Royal Marsden hospital on clinical research projects covering cancer screening programmes including the pilots for the UK breast screening programme and evaluation of cervical screening programmes. Then moving into the broader field of market research including consumer, B2B and mystery shopping and finally returning to healthcare research firstly with Synovate and lately with medeConnect Healthcare Insight.  

Nicola combines the experience of the ethical procedures and  practicalities of the day to day running of research projects to ensure that guidelines are met and the rationale explained.

Mo Rice - Senior Vice President, M3 Global Research / BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee member

Mo has worked in market research for over 25 years. Her experience spans from coding/operations and fieldwork to managing full service projects, client service and business development.

Mo has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research and covers many sectors which include Healthcare, Media (Television & Radio), Automotive and Consumer. She is particularly passionate about online research and has chosen to specialise in online healthcare research.

Mo is a member of the BHBIA Ethics & Compliance Committee's Guidelines team, which focusses on the development of legal and ethical guidelines for healthcare market research, including guidance on the implementation of GDPR.

Catherine Ayland - Independent Ethics Consultant to the BHBIA

Catherine Ayland is an independent market research consultant specialising in the healthcare field.  Catherine has been the BHBIA’s independent Ethics Consultant since 2005 and in this capacity she is responsible for developing and maintaining the BHBIA’s Legal and Ethical Guidelines.  Prior to working as a freelance consultant, which she has done for the last 15 years, Catherine spent 13 years on the client side, ultimately heading up the international market research team within Boots Pharmaceuticals. 

Catherine's role involves regular liaison with the MRS, the ABPI (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry), the PMCPA (the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority), the ICO (information Commissioners Office) and with EphMRA (European Pharmaceutical Market Research Association) and ESOMAR too. She is also Ethics Consultant to EphMRA.
